Family Fun Day and Health Fair

On Saturday, April 29 the Sacramento Children’s Home Valley Hi Family Resource Center held its 11th annual Family Fun Day and Health Fair at Prairie Elementary. Vendors offered health screenings, cooking demonstrations, information about school readiness and enrollment, and other resources to improve the health and well-being of families in the Sacramento community.

Family Fun Day provided the perfect opportunity for the Sacramento Children’s Home to celebrate its 150th Anniversary with the community it is so proud to serve. Barbecued tri-tip and chicken were served to the first 500 participants and families with children of all ages enjoyed face painting, carnival games, jump houses, live entertainment and more. The event was open to the public and all services and activities were offered free of charge.

“So many families in Sacramento County depend on the Sacramento Children’s Home Family Resource Centers to learn effective parenting techniques, how best to connect with their children and where to access resources they need to improve their daily lives,” said Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna. “One of the most important things about the Family Resource Centers is that they help bring families out of isolation and provide them with a safe place to engage in fun supportive activities. I’m delighted to participate in SCH’s annual Family Fun Day and Health Fair.”

Event vendors included Kohls Cares, SMUD, Elk Grove Unified School District, Sacramento Life Center, Sierra Donor Services, LAO Community Development, Inc., Americorps, The Child Abuse Prevention Center, Health Education Council, Voice of the Youth, Sacramento Fire, Opening Doors, Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, California Volunteers, Rhinestone Riders, and Wake-Up Foundation.
